    22-2-NONE is a non-profit organization lead by a board of fellow veterans who work to raise awareness and provide support to combat veteran suicide. Our organization was created to help keep our brothers and sisters in arms safe by lending a hand, offering a listening ear or being a shoulder to lean on when needed. We are excited to participate in SwingShift and the Stars because raising awareness to veteran suicide is important but, getting the community involved both physically and financially is how we will be able to make the biggest impact in a veteran’s life and help them to continue “Fighting The Fight Within”.

    Marilyn Taylor - Star

    Marilyn and her husband Tom have lived in Traverse City for nearly 35 years. Together, they have raised two children, one of whom is a combat veteran, and are the proud grand parents of two young boys. Marilyn decided to focus on the residential side of real estate and has uniquely combined her extensive marketing experience, vast social network and the latest technology to help her clients buy and sell their home. She has been the top producer for EXIT Realty in the State of Michigan for the past 4 years and is consistently in the top 5% of all local Realtors. Marilyn is excited to be performing with SwingShift and the Stars because she loves how it gives local charities a platform from which to raise funds and awareness.

    Mel Kiogima - Instructor

    Originally from Harbor Springs, Michigan, Traverse City has been home to Mel and his lovely and gracious wife Nancy for 41 years. They are blessed with eight children and twelve grandchildren. Mel and Nancy started dancing in the late 70’s and have taken many lessons, competed, and now provide dance lessons through their business Night Moves Social Dance. Mel is a Senior Geologist with the State of Michigan and enjoys boating and dancing in his spare time. Mel is a returning SwingShift and the Stars instructor and is pleased to have this opportunity to bring awareness to his assigned charity and, of course, help raise money for a worthy cause.
  • The Childrens House

    The Children's House prepares a Montessori learning environment that supports and respects the development of each unique child and nurtures them to become independent, curious, lifelong learners who strive to contribute to their communities and the greater world.  By utilizing the developmental learning philosophy created by Dr. Montessori, we inspire the child's curiosity and help them find answers. A strong Traverse area partner, we are valued for providing an exceptional educational option for families and children of all ages. We are excited to be a part of SwingShift and the Stars because we are excited to share our mission, our efforts and our story with the greater Traverse City community!

    The Children's House Parent Partnership is a dedicated community of current and former parents of students who have attended The Children's House. Beyond exemplary infant, early childhood, elementary and junior high programs, these parents value the development of independence and promote an environment that encourages self-discovery, respect and life-long learning. We are excited to be participating in SwingShift and the Stars because we want to invite the community to learn more about the dynamic programming, staff, and administration at The Children’s House, and to understand the value of an authentic Montessori education.

    Steve Maas - Star

    Steve Maas has been at The Children's House for twenty five years and has had the opportunity to meet and get to know hundreds of families. He believes that when Maria Montessori said " Within the child lies the fate of the future" she was correct. SwingShift and the Stars is a very exciting opportunity for him because he will be able to have fun, learn to dance a bit and most importantly help an organization that he loves.

    Jenny Rohlen - Instructor

    Jenny Rohlen was born and raised in Winnetka, IL just north of Chicago. Go Cubs Go! She started ballet when she was 3 years old and has continued to dance in some way ever since. Jenny participated in SwingShift and the Stars 5th Season with Homer Nye. That year, Homer married Jenny and her husband Brian on Old Mission Peninsula. This year, Brian and Jenny will celebrate their 6th Anniversary on October 20th! Jenny has 4 children. She has a real estate career with and together with Brian, they own Deluxe Self-Storage. Jenny is truly excited to be a part of the 2018 season and cannot wait to help raise money for another amazing charity. 
  • Christs Hope

    Christ’s Hope International is dedicated to caring for AIDS-affected, orphaned, and vulnerable children in Sub-Saharan Africa. Our model focuses on meeting the educational, physical, spiritual and emotional needs of the children that we serve, equipping them to remain in families and become CYCLEBREAKERS. From our humble beginnings in a small town in Namibia, Christ’s Hope International now cares for over 1,300 children in 28 Ministry CarePoints across Africa.

    Loft TC is a rustic, cozy vacation rental located in the heart of downtown Traverse City. This iconic 130 year old building was once home to a printing press, its towering brick walls stand 12 feet tall and were hand made using clay from the waters of Cedar Lake. The restoration of the original maple floors, historic doors, and barn wood, featuring custom pieces from local artisans, make it an intimate, cozy, and unique space!

    Saburi Boyer - Star

    Owner of Loft TC and Traverse Bay Parasail, and managing partner at TC Watersports, Saburi Boyer's passion is to bring people together to enjoy quality time while doing fun things and has spent much of his life putting people together with their dream vacation experience. In 2017, after battling leukemia, he took a vacation of his own visiting Christ's Hope International in East Africa. He has been an active child sponsor, donor, advocate, and friend of the ministry ever since. So much so that he has agreed to step out of his comfort zone by dancing to support Christ's Hope in this season's SwingShift and the Stars!

    Sharon Pascoe - Instructor

    Sharon has been an RN case manager for most of her career. She has competed in rhythm and smooth ballroom dancing for the past 5 years with professional partner Dwight Davis. Her passions include: spending time with grandchildren; pets and pet related charities; dancing for Swingshift and the Stars and the charities they help; ballet; paddleboarding; great friends; and loving life- one day at a time”. 
  • City Opera House

    The City Opera House acts as a regional hub for connecting people to the arts and each other.     Since 1946, Tom’s Food Markets has been providing everyday mealtime solutions and entertainment needs to the greater Grand Traverse area. Today, with six supermarkets, giving back to the communities where they do business remains part of Tom’s operating philosophy. Tom’s Food Markets is locally owned, family owned and community based.

    Maurie Allen - Star // Dancer

    Maurie Allen has spent the last 54 years as a merchant on Front Street in Traverse City, Michigan. All 54 years have been in the 100 block. The first two years as Operations Manager for Montgomery Ward Company in the historic Hanna Lay Building and the last 52 years as owner of the Captain's Quarters. He has been allowed to leave the block most evenings to join his wife of 56 years, Betsy, and in the early years to tuck in his three children, who are now well over 50 and no longer tuckable. But one of the 8 children still is.

    Jane Deering - Star // Lip Sync

    I am thrilled to be participating in SwingShift and the Stars because I will be promoting the City Opera House and Tom's Food Markets, both of which I love! And as an avid past follower, it is now agreat pleasure to personally partake in this season’s philanthropic program. My dream of being a great singer will now be fullfilled through Lip Sync. My sister Christy and I are 3rd generation of Tom’s Food Markets dating back to 1946! Outside of work, I have a wonderful husband, Matthew Zimmerman, of Zimmerman Landscaping, 3 grown children, a daughter in law and a grandaughter. Matthew and I live on Lake Leelanau where we enjoy everything nature and family have to offer.

  • SwingShift and the stars

    Arts for All of Northern Michigan has been providing accessible art and culture opportunities for individuals of ALL abilities in Grand Traverse, Benzie, Kalkaska, Leelanau, and Antrim counties for 21 years. A4A programs include in-classroom artist residencies and workshops; quarterly dances and monthly outings for teens and adults; community cultural accessibility events; the Kid's on the Block educational puppet program; and much more. All programs are designed to not only allow access to arts and culture for individuals with disabilities, but also to promote students’ motivation to finish school and provide opportunities to learn occupational, independence, and interpersonal skills. A4A is continuously working to inspire ALL abilities.

    Derek Woodruf - STAR

    Derek Woodruf is a celebrity florist and professional competitive floral designer who has competed at the national and international level, as well as on reality television. Born and raised in Jackson, Michigan, this Traverse City “transplant “made his way north in 2006. Derek travels extensively around the country spending time on stage as a floral industry educator, as well as behind and in front of the camera as a floral stylist and model for professional photo and video shoots.

    Grace Hudson - Star

    Grace Hudson is the Executive Director of Arts for All of Northern MI. She is a native of Blissfield, MI, and holds a Bachelor's in Special Education. Grace has a passion for dance. She has performed on various teams, and  has 5 years of experience as a certified dance fitness instructor. Grace and her husband, Chris, enjoy doing anything outdoors and spending time with friends and family.She is excited to be a part of SwingShift and the Stars because it combines her passions of dance, Arts for All, and community!

    The mission of Michael's Place is to provide support and advocacy for children, teens, and adults grieving the death of a loved one and educate the community on the impact of grief. Michael’s Place is the only bereavement center of its kind in northwest Michigan, serving nearly 2000 annually with no cost programs and services, including outreach to regional schools, workplaces, and the broader community.

    Clark Manufacturing in Traverse City was founded by entrepreneur Gary Clark in 1975 as a small tool and die machine shop. For over 40 years it has served the Northern Michigan growing manufacturing base, and as their reputation of quality service spread it became a dependable source for these businesses, and other Midwest businesses too. Today Clark employs over 100 team members with high precision machining capabilities to serve the aerospace, medical, energy, agricultural, construction, and industrial industries around the world.

    Ellyn Tarrant - Star // Dancer

    Ellyn Tarrant is a former writer and editor for Traverse Magazine who left her position after giving birth to triplets. She’s now a “career mom” to her 14 children, who she calls the best work she’s ever done. Her story of many blessings took an unexpected turn three years ago when she lost her 19-year-old daughter Keegan to depression and suicide. Since then she has expanded her focus to oversee The Keegan Mission Project, a scholarship fund to help students experience mission work. I am excited to be participating in SwingShift and the Stars because I have experienced first hand what a lifeline Michael’s Place can be for grieving adults, children and families in our community. This organization deserves nothing less than a standing ovation for the kindness, support and healing they offer free of charge, and I’m happy to kick up my heels to give back just a little of the love they’ve shown my family.

    Angela DiLorenzo - Star // Lip Sync

    Justin Koertgen - Instructor

    Justin Koertgen danced for the Dayton Ballet for twelve seasons. Justin attended the Interlochen Arts Academy from 1995-2000. Justin has taught all over the country and his choreography has been showcased at Interlochen Center for the Arts, Mercyhurst University, and The Dayton Ballet. Justin has also danced for Ballet Fleming, Charleston Ballet, Ballet Montana, and the Traverse City Dance Project. Justin is currently on faculty at the Interlochen Arts Academy.

    Adam Miller - Star

    Adam Miller is a real estate developer and entrepreneur. He currently serves on the board at Traverse City Christian School. TC Christian has had a tremendous impact on his life. His parents helped found the school while he was in junior high, and he and his wife, Kristin, were classmates and high school sweethearts. They have been married for 16 years with four wonderful children- Austin (11), Abigail (9), Clayton (7), and Grace (2). Their three oldest children all love attending Traverse City Christian. Adam is excited to help further the mission and awareness of Traverse City Christian, even if that means pretending he can dance.

    Liz Arbut - Instructor

    Liz is a Northern Michigan native who enjoys living in this beautiful area. She has a passion for dance and received her foundational training at Dance Arts Academy. In addition to dance, Liz is a licensed cosmetologist at Studio 415. She was a member of Michigan Dance Collective, an instructor at The Dance Center, and has done choreography for The Old Town Playhouse. She has been a SwingShift and the Stars instructor numerous times in addition to judging last season.

    Zonta Club of Traverse City works to empower women through service and advocacy as part of an international organization. Zonta Club members work as volunteers to raise money to distribute as grants and scholarships within our local community.  With no administrative costs, all monies raised are distributed directly back into the community in support of women and their families.

    Deb Jackson - Star

    Deb Jackson is a passionate community worker and social entrepreneur. After relocating to Traverse City, a friend introduced her to Zonta. Being a businesswoman and encountering biases throughout her career, Zonta's mission of advancing the status of women worldwide resonated. The awesome local Zontians became her sisterhood. She has worked tirelessly on Zonta projects, has held officer positions and recently completed a term as President. She now is an Area Director for the Michigan-Canada District of Zonta.

    Richard Dodge - Instructor

    Richard Dodge taught his first dance lesson in 1988 at the Fred Astaire Dance Studio. For the next 8 years, he worked in a number of different studios across the country; teaching, coaching, and dancing competitively. During this time, he earned teaching certifications in American Style ballroom, Latin dancing, and International Standard. Since moving to Michigan in 2008, his teaching and dancing has become more of a hobby than a profession, as he focuses on building his Artisian carpentry business. He now resides in Frankfort with his wife Nici and her 2 sons.
